Early Career
Emmanuel Matadi was born on April 15, 1991, in Liberia and showed talent as a sprinter from a young age. He moved to the United States for his studies at Minnesota State University, where he quickly rose through the ranks, winning NJCAA titles in the 100 m and 200 m events.
Despite living in the U.S., Matadi chose to represent Liberia, a rare decision among athletes of his generation. In 2016 he won bronze in the 200 m at the African Championships, signaling his readiness for international competition.
Breakthrough and Achievements
Matadi competed in three Olympic Games: Rio 2016, Tokyo 2020, and Paris 2024, becoming Liberia’s most experienced track athlete. His 100 m personal best long hovered around 10.1–10.2 s, but after 2022 he began improving steadily. In 2024 he ran 9.91 s, setting the Liberian record and becoming a contender in the global sprint scene.
His 60 m (6.52 s) and 200 m (20.07 s) performances highlight his versatility and explosive start, which remain strong even at a mature age.

Path to Enhanced Games
On December 8, 2025, Emmanuel Matadi was officially announced as a competitor in the Enhanced Games. At 34, he embarked on a new phase in his career while many sprinters are retiring from elite competition.
Financial motivation is clear – Liberia has limited sponsorship opportunities, and the Enhanced Games prize pool offers up to one million dollars for a world record. Matadi emphasized, however, that the love of sport and the drive to prove you can improve after thirty were central to his decision.
